Privacy Policy
Your files are yours.

1. Principles & Local-First Architecture

Shark is built to be a fast, native file manager for macOS. We believe your folders, file names, file contents, and terminal sessions are private and belong solely to you.

Core Guarantee: Shark executes entirely locally on your Mac. We never scan, upload, index, transmit, or store your files, directory listings, or documents on any remote server.

2. Telemetry and Diagnostics

To maintain app stability and improve performance, Shark includes privacy-respecting telemetry powered by Google Firebase (Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics). This collection is strictly non-identifiable and minimal:

  • Product Interaction (Usage Data): Aggregated, anonymous metrics about feature interactions (such as opening split view, toggling dark mode, or launching preferences). This helps us understand what works well and where to focus development.
  • Crash Data (Diagnostics): Anonymous crash traces, operating system version, and device architecture to help us find and resolve bugs quickly.

No Personal Identifiers: We never collect names, email addresses, IP addresses, Apple IDs, file names, or file paths. Telemetry is not linked to your identity and is never used for advertising, cross-app tracking, or data brokers.

3. Complete User Control & Opt-Out

You have direct control over telemetry at any time:

  • Open Shark → Settings (or press ⌘,).
  • Select the Privacy tab.
  • Toggle off Send Anonymous Usage Statistics or Send Crash Reports.

When disabled, telemetry initialization and network calls are completely suppressed.

4. Third-Party Services

Shark integrates the Google Firebase iOS/macOS SDK solely for anonymous telemetry and crash reporting as described above. No third-party advertising SDKs, tracking pixels, or data-brokering tools are embedded in Shark.

5. Sandbox & macOS Permissions

Shark runs within the macOS App Sandbox. Access to folders, external drives, and network resources is governed strictly by explicit user actions (such as picking a directory in an open dialog) and macOS system permission prompts.

6. Changes to this Policy

If we make updates to our privacy policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Substantial changes will also be highlighted in release notes.
